The 1st and only Commercial Tanning School offered in a
working Commercial Tannery in Oregon
Our State of the Art Commercial Tannery School offers an educational experience where you will be learning the art of tanning in a working commercial tannery. You will not only learn to tan, we will teach you how you need to set up your tanning area whether you plan to own your own commercial tannery or you want to tan your clients taxidermy mounts. You will see how we at High Desert Commercial Tannery runs and operates our business, the persons you need to contact for the permits you will need.We will give you books with all the suppliers that you will need for ordering your materials. Each student will take home professial blue prints with all the measurments and specs you will need to build all the tannery equipment. After completion of our Commercial Tanning School we will celebrate with a student recognition dinner at our Historic Taxidermy Museum resturant and lounge. Family and guests are welcome to attend and celebrate. Upon completion of our Tanning School we will provide continues support. Our goal is to have all our students succeed in Tanning.
We here at HDSE, LLC Tannery belive in the importance of continuous education and are
constantly sending our partners and employee's to seminars and other schools to better our product and teaching ability. We have over 20 years in the art of Commercial Taxidermy Tanning and look forward to passing that knowledge on to you. By going to other schools we can understand our competions teaching tecniques to make our educational facility better and financially better for you.
Tanning School Dates for 2012 are as follows:
March Class: Starts Mon. 5 - Fri. 30
June Class: Starts Mon. 4 - Fri. 29
July Class: Starts Mon. 2 - Fri. 27

Our Specimens: Always fresh and in their prime, you will take home all you've tanned to show your protential clients your tanning skills.
There are other exotic specimen available at students cost.
Students will also be provided with equipment plans and specs. (blue prints) on each piece of
equipment they've learned on and will need to start their own business.
We will also teach how to build and obtain all the necessary tools, supplies and equipment.
In-House Architectural Design: Bring to the school a sketch of your
shop building and we will give you a Floor Plan Layout for your Tannery.
From Receiving to Shipping with Equipment Placement and Work Flow.
No Tools Or Materials Needed. We will provide you with everything you will need.

Tuition: $3300.00 with a $500 dollar deposit required (non refundable).
NOTE: Beginning Jan 2012 Class Tuition will be $3300.00 with a $500 deposit reqd.
Maximum of 3 to 4 students per class to insure one on one instruction.

- Equipment building (wet wheels, sanders, shavers, degreasers, tumblers, and staking machine)
Our facility is approximately 4,000 Sq. Ft. Our spacious work area is equiped with advanced fleshing machines, tumblers, up to date tanning tools, lecture area and video viewing station. Even though we feel video is not an efficient way of learning it has its place in aiding you on new and upcoming techniques. We are 100% wheel chair accessible. We have a nice indoor break area as well as a nice outdoor break area with a beautiful view of Paulina Peaks. Each student will get a complete understanding of the tanning and how a commercial tannery operates. All students will tan all there specimens using the state of the art method
that we use every day in the commercial tannery. We tan thousands of capes, hides and furs for taxidermists all over the nation and you will know the tannery inside and out upon graduation.
Due to the Oregon State Laws we are not able to buy or sell bears and cougar. But through
our Commercial Tannery and Oregon Fish and Wildlife, student will get to work with these specimen.
We will go through these animals extensively.
